A Better Approach To The Care You Deserve
Welcome to Dye’s Counseling Oasis. My name is Melissa Dye. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). I am also a veteran of the United States Army. It was in my early years in the Army as a mental health technician that I determined what my career path would be. I fell in “Love” with mental health. I have forever loved the science and research behind how our minds operate. However, having the opportunity to help those around me and possibly change the outcome of their circumstances was what drew me into counseling. I had witnessed both personally and professionally the strain of being in the military and how those stressors can cause even the strongest of individuals to question their sanity and the value of their life. I wanted to figure out how to create a career for myself that included helping both service members and their families. I wanted to make a difference. For me, that difference has been learning how to help my clients navigate through their trauma, pain, and move forward in getting their lives back. It has been an absolute honor to work in this profession. I am a huge advocate for moving past your trauma. I believe that having trauma doesn’t mean that it gets to define how you live your life. You have the right to take back control and fulfill your purpose, be present with your family, and create a life you have always imagined. You deserve to love you!
I am certified in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR). EMDR is an evidenced based therapy approach used to treat symptoms ranging from anxiety, panic attacks, depression, eating disorder, grief and loss, PTSD, sexual trauma, and other trauma related stress issues. EMDR therapy helps children and adults of all ages. I specialize in working with service members, veterans, and individuals with PTSD and traumatic life stressors, victims of sexual trauma and MST (Military Sexual Trauma), and in the diversity of military life and families. Other areas of my focus include neurodivergences (ADD, ADHD, Autism, Sensory Processing Disorder, et. ), depression, anxiety, eating disorders, adjustment difficulties, and behavioral difficulties. I work with both children and adults. In the last 20 years, I have worked in a variety of mental health facilities and clinics. These include both inpatient/ outpatient drug and alcohol facilities, as an inpatient trauma specialist, short term inpatient behavioral health coach and clinician, and in private practice for almost 10 years.
My vision for Dye’s Counseling Oasis was to create a welcoming, caring, and compassionate environment for clients to come as they are. My goal for you as the client is to feel welcome and safe, in a place that encourages individual growth at your own pace. One of the most common fears I hear from my clients is that the hardest step was “making the appointment”. I believe that how a client is treated upon their initial meeting, whether over the phone or in person, determines whether that client will make an appointment or walk away feeling hopeless. This is something I want to change. I want you, as my client, to always feel valued. My emphasis in counseling is to create a working relationship that promotes effective therapy though a means of encouragement, solution focus, and a commitment to yourself. In my office, there is no such thing as normalcy. But rather, I embrace the imperfection of life. We are all flawed. These flaws are what make you a unique and beautiful human being.
Counseling should be collaborative effort between you and your therapist. You should feel empowered and confident in your decisions and in working toward whatever your goals are. I believe in investing in my clients. As your therapist, I will push you to push yourself. I utilize tough love, but with a “supportive and caring nudge”. My style can be described as diverse, eclectic, and adaptive. There is no one size fits all in counseling. I am passionate about advocating on behalf of those who cannot advocate for themselves. Together, we will work to create realistic and tangible goals that work for you. I will work to ensure you are comfortable with our therapeutic relationship and that you feel empowered during the entire therapeutic process. Your journey to healing, creating change, or just feeling better is yours to create.
If you are curious about EMDR and what it can do for you, then take a chance and give me a call. Please contact me through email, by phone, Psychology Today, or www.dyescounselingoasis.com, if you would like to schedule a session or have any questions regarding counseling.
